26 Feb 2019

Mochudi branch of the Dutch Reformed Church in Botswana (DRCB) has been applauded for showing the spirit of botho and love to the less privileged members of society.

Councillor for Rasesa, Mr Daniel Molokwe, said DRCB had always been at the forefront of such activities in the Kgatleng District.

The church’s Mothers Union recently donated blankets and toiletries to five beneficiaries and toiletries to the Mochudi Resource Centre for the Blind. .

“The women of this church are testimony that indeed women are pillars of our society,” he said.

He indicated that he grew up in the DRCB where uplifting of people had been the church’s mantra.

“DRCB is leading the way for other churches to follow,” he said, adding that it is not only council’s responsibility to help the needy.

Mr Molokwe said he had in the past encouraged business people to donate to the needy and he was happy with what he had seen so far, even though it could be significantly improved.

“Just recently, I held a meeting with business people and we have houses being built for the needy, electricity and water connected to those that did not have it and are in abject poverty,” he said.

He further said it was heartwarming to see organisations donating without being coerced into it, adding that “the little that you have donated today will go a long way in making a huge difference is someone else’s life.

Mother Union deputy chairperson, Ms Masemuli Semuli, said they had pledged to help out in society, adding that being a Christian should be followed by good deeds.

Ms Semuli pleaded with other believers to help the needy in their communities, voluntarily and out of love.

“Let us use our faith and help our president, Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi, who highlighted botho as one of his pillars in moving this country forward,” she said.

Kgosana Olefile Mosekiemang of Rasesa expressed gratitude for what DRCB had done and urged the women to encourage their men to also partake. Ends
