SOS Serowe in dire need of support
26 Feb 2019
SOS is encouraging the spirit of giving by making people realise that even donating a little can change the lives of recipients.
SOS Village Serowe social worker, Ms Goabelwa Mosipidi said the campaign for assistance had been inspired by the need to encourage donations from people of all walks of life.
Ms Mosipidi told a three-day workshop for Child Protection Committee members in Serowe recently that the main aim of the campaign was to sensitise the public to support the underprivileged as well as to give individuals opportunity to contribute towards the children at SOS.
She stated that SOS children’s villages Botswana had transformed itself from just a non-governmental organisation to a leading social development organisation that aimed to improve the quality of life for children who were at risk of losing parental care and those that had completely lost the care of their parents.
“We have a vision to ensure that every child belongs to a family and grows with love, security and respect, we are committed to helping the less privileged children in this country through our innovative programmes,’’ she said.
She said they had constructed two rooms for less-privileged children at Betesankwe near Jwaneng and they had also given one of them some goats.
However, Ms Mosipidi indicated that they were concerned about some of their children, who were involved in drug and alcohol abuse, crime and teenage pregnancy.
Ms Makgoa Mosime, a social worker from Serowe Sub-council, told participants that their mandate was to ensure that young children attended pre-school as their intention was to develop children’s minds and emotions at a tender age.
She said they encouraged all children in the district to go to pre-school and those who were unable because of their economic status should consult council Social and Community Development department for assistance.
Ms Mosime stated that they were also responsible for making sure that day care centres were conducive for the young ones. ENDS
