Department embarks on tree planting project

25 Feb 2019

Department of Forestry and Range Resources is embarking on a tree planting project worth P400 000 for the next three years in order to alleviate climate change effects.

Speaking during Good Hope Sub-council session, chairperson Ms Maobene Molefe said the project, which is geared towards fighting desertification, was allocated the funds because Good Hope village had less vegetation.

On another note Ms Molefe said stakeholders and community leaders were sensitised on the importance of tree planting and had since suggested planting sites.

She said the department had liased with relevant authorities and so far 107 trees had been planted, protected and treated for termites along internal road avenues in Good Hope.

She also said the project employed 19 casual labourers to dig holes for three days.

Ms Molefe said the project continued since negotiations to plant trees along the road avenue from Metlojane and Good Hope to Pitsane were still on going.

She also said government and non-government institutes were also welcome to support the project as long as tending operations were being done by the such institutions. ENDS
