Foundation gives pupils school bags

25 Feb 2019

Education has been described as key towards the realisation of Sustainable Development Goals and Vision 2036 aspirations.

This was said by deputy permanent secretary to Permanent Secretary to the President Mr Enerst Phiri when handing over 70 school bags to Mokungwane Primary School pupils and 293 bags to pupils at Matlhakola Primary school.

The donation was from from the Morupisi R7 Foundation and was presented on behalf of Permanent Secretary to the President, Mr Carter Morupisi.

Mr Phiri said since Botswana was striving to diversify from being a resource based economy to a knowledge-based one, education was key towards achieving the objective.

He said the donations would encourage the pupils to look forward to attending school, emphasising that children were the future, hence the need for their learning process to be inspired by the colourful school bags.

Mr Phiri went on to urge parents not take the school bags for their personal use.

He encouraged parents to play a role in their children’s education in order for them to perform well and noted that educating children was a joint venture among parents, teachers and the community.

He commended the Morupisi R7 Foundation for the donation, indicating that the foundation had assisted Malaka, Moroka, Xhumo, Lerala and Molebatsi primary schools, among other schools around the country, something he said demonstrated that the foundation cared about children’s education.

Meanwhile, Mr Dikakanyo Mojaphiri, who is a member of the Morupisi R7 Foundation, said the idea to provide school bags to pupils in schools was part of the Adopt-A-School initiative meant to encourage children to take education seriously. ENDS
