Signange erected along border
24 Feb 2019
Parliament has been informed that the Botswana and Zimbabwe common boundary is undergoing a joint reaffirmation exercise in line with the African Union Border Programme and is scheduled to be completed by March 2022.
This was said by the Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services Mr Itumeleng Moipisi when responding to a question from Nkange MP Mr Edwin Batshu.
He said the ministry was aware of the confusion regarding borderlines, adding that communities living along both sides of the boundary were sensitised about the border issues and the alignment of the official boundary as the exercise progressed.
He said the Botswana/ Zimbabwe Joint Boundary Technical Committee would erect information signage on strategic points to sensitise the public on correct boundary positions by September 2019.
Mr Batshu had asked the minister whether the ministry was aware of Botswana/Zimbabwe borderline confusion among communities living along Zimbabwean borderline who generally believe that inland disease control fences were the actual borderlines.
He also asked what the ministry was doing to sensitise them on correct borderlines. ENDS
