The world depends on the use of technology, hence need to avail all necessary tools to users.
Carrera Holdings managing director, Mr Chirag Patel, said this during a handover ceremony of educational tablets and computers at Ambrose Academy in Gaborone.
Carrera Holdings donated two laptops, three tablets, two speakers and a cheque worth P5000 to the academy .
Mr Patel further said the donation was to give the children an opportunity to broaden their skills.
Furthermore, he said with the community’s help and support, children living with disabilities stood a greater chance in competing with the rest of the world and meeting the requirements of employment hence the need to partake in rendering support to the academy.
Ambrose academy’s school head, Ms Irina Ivanova, said she was grateful to Carrera Holdings for its donation.
She said it was key to note that children living with disabilities needed different stimulation tools in order to address their vast needs. “What we need to know is that the academy uses different tools to address different student needs. We use tablets to help children with speech delay, they get to hear how words are pronounced, we teach them how to use pictures to communicate and learn different skills” she said.
For her part, Mrs Bokang Opelokgale expressed hope that the future of the children shall be a bright one through donations such as this one.
One of the parents, Ms Babotsang Mokopakgosi said a lot could still be done in order to sensitise the communities on different needs of children living with disabilities.
She further stated that facilities such as the academy needed all the help they could get in order to make it possible for more students to get enrolled.
“Some parents enroll their students here but as time goes they are unable to pay school fees and so the children end up dropping out of school. If we had funds to cushion the academy, in such cases the student would be allowed to just come to school” she said.
Ambrose Academy creates an environment for learners with hearing impairment, speech delay, autism, attention hyperactivity disorder, global developmental delays and down syndrome.ENDS
