 Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Kitso Mokaila says Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) has in the past three years not engaged any company based outside Botswana to advertise the country’s tourism online other than an officer based at the Botswana High Commission in London.

Mr Mokaila said the officer took care of all Botswana tourism interests in the UK and the rest of continental Europe.

He said BTO would start working with Batswana to promote the country whenever an appropriate opportunity arised.

Specially Elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister to state how much BTO had paid to companies based outside Botswana to advertise the country’s tourism online for the past three years.

He also wanted to know what informed the minister to undermine the capacity and capabilities of Batswana by not engaging them to offer those services.

He further wanted to know if the minister had any plans to engage local Batswana companies to advertise the country using online platforms.  ENDS
