Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi says his ministry has employed one person living with albinism and 45 people living with disabilities.
He stated that out of the 45 people living with disabilities, 20 were staff of Water Utilities Corporation.
Mr Moipisi also said the one person living with albinism was working in Kweneng District, adding that employees with disabilities were countrywide with 14 working in Kweneng District.
Mr Moipisi stated that Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG) had not set targets for the disadvantaged groups, including people with disabilities.
He said he believed that with the numbers employed, the ministry was compliant with SDG 8.
Specially Elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile had asked the minister to state the number of people living with albinism, and people living with disabilities employed in his ministry and by water utilities.
He also wanted the minister to provide a breakdown by district and whether the number employed met the country’s target of SDG 8: promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all.
He had further asked the minister to give an assurance when the target would be met for the disadvantaged groups in compliance with SDG number 8. ENDS
