Gambling Authority engages transaction advisor

21 Feb 2019

The Gambling Authority has engaged a company to be the transaction advisor that will evaluate national lottery bids, says Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Moiseraele Goya.

Mr Goya said the Gambling Authority had also engaged a local firm of auditors to be the independent external assurance providers of the entire process.

He said the company which would be evaluating the lottery bids was appointed on a single sourcing method and was approved by the board. He added that it was in line with the Gambling Authority procurement policy on single sourcing or direct appointment.

Mr Goya also noted that the policy was vetted by the Public Procurement Asset Disposal Board (PPADB).

He said the company that had been appointed was a foreign company with expertise in electronic law and national lottery evaluation and had undertaken extensive gambling consultancy work.

He noted that they were all integral in the evaluation and adjudication of lottery bids.

Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapetse had wanted to know whether there was a company engaged to adjudicate on the lottery licensing, and when the tender invitation was floated in local or international media as well as the number of companies that responded. He also wanted to know whether the company that had been appointed was a citizen owned, and if not, the special skills possessed by its manpower that led to it being awarded the tender. ENDS
