Gambling Authority members spend over P125 000 on trips

Parliament has leant that the total per diem for all trips undertaken to destinations outside the country by the Gambling Authority executives committee and board members from April 2017 to March 2018 was P125 926.

Assistant Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Mr Moiseraele Goya said expenditure for the trips undertaken from April 2017 to March 2018 by the chief executive officer was P39 698, chief operations officer P39 698, chief legal officer P24 872, chief internal auditor P6 188 and chief P6 188.

Selebi Phikwe West MP, Mr Dithapelo Keorapatse had asked the minister to state the total amount of per diem for all trips undertaken to destinations outside the country by the Gambling Authority executives committee and board members from April 2017 to March 2018.

He also wanted to know the positions held by those who undertake such trips, and the total amount spent for each of them for a 12-month period from April 2017 to March 2018.

Answering another question, Mr Goya stated that the Gambling Authority had an internal audit department which had to date issued finance and procurement and information technology reports.

Regarding the financial and procurement report, he said the audit was conducted from March to May 2018 with a sign off date of May 29, 2018. 

He said for testing purposes, the period covered was 2017-2018 financial year.He said the information technology audit was conducted from May 27 to July 30 with sign off date of August 2018, and that the period covered was the 2017-2018 financial year He said the audit function was fully staffed in March 2018.

Mr Goya said all audits were rated “amber” in terms of the authority rating meaning the control environment was partially adequate with room for improvement.

Mr Keorapetse had asked the minister whether the Gambling Authority had an internal audit department, and if internal audits had been conducted before.

The minister was also to state how the Gambling Authority fared in terms of procurement and recruitment according to the audits conducted. ENDS
