Government knows the importance of using qualified and registered land surveyors in the construction of roads, and has come up with laws governing the registration of various professionals, including land surveyors. This was said by Minister of Transport and Communications, Ms Dorcas Makgato when responding to a question from Ghanzi North MP, Mr Noah Salakae.
The minister said before commencement of the design and construction phases of each project, her ministry ensured that the required credentials of all key staff who possessed expertise in site layout, among others, were verified. She said the ongoing Gaborone-Boatle road project had Batswana land surveyors involved in its supervision team.
“The project’s senior surveyor is a Motswana who holds a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in land surveying and 30 years work experience.
His two assistants are Batswana with certificate qualifications,” she added.Mr Salakae had wanted to know whether government was aware of the importance of using qualified and registered land surveyors in the construction of roads and other infrastructure in general. He also asked why Batswana land surveyors were not involved in the Boatle-Game City road construction. ENDS
