Botswana Football Association (BFA) has terminated contract of senior national football team coach, Major David Bright.
BFA chief executive officer, Mfolo Mfolo, confirmed in an interview that they parted ways with the coach, despite the fact that his contract was due to run until 2020.
“We had a contract with him until 2020, but remember there are specific performance requirements also,” he said.
Major Bright confirmed that he received his termination letter on yesterday evening, saying however, that he was not shocked because he saw long seen it coming.
He said BFA had terminated his contract based on failure to qualify for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in four games, three of which were played away.
“My contact ends in June 2020, so I have to contact my lawyer to give me legal advice and map a way forward,” he said.
Major Bright said he was a happy man because there had been an improvement in the team’s ranking. He said when he took over, the Zebras were in the last 16 of COSAFA ranking and it is now seating on top six, adding that this therefore meant in the coming competition, they would start at the quarter finals.
“When I analyse all the games that we played, three away AFCON games, one home against Angola and all friendly games, including Independence Day games, we have not lost any home game,” he said. ends
