District officer encourages public servants to attend DDC meettings

19 Feb 2019

Serowe Administrative Authority (SAA), assistant district officer, Mr Colleen Tumelo has raised a concern about some heads of government departments who never attend sub-district development committee meetings without any apologies.

Mr Tumelo said this when welcoming public officers who attended Sub-DDC meeting recently.

The chairperson was also concerned about late coming to meetings.

He however applauded committee members who came on time and also forwarded developmental reports.

He reminded the members that the meetings were convened to review performance and the reports should be precise and help the sub-district to take stock and reflect on past performance.

The chairperson mentioned that various committees should update the committee about the developmental projects and that it was imperative that issues of budget specification and time be adhered to, so as to guard against cost overruns and poorly constructed public infrastructure.

Members were urged to freely share challenges they encounter as they go about delivering services and come up with solutions to arrest the situations.

He encouraged them to be productive and efficient to avoid criticism from members of the community.

Mr Tumelo further encouraged civil servants to register for the coming general elections.

He said it was their constitutional right and choice to register and vote, encouraging them to also inspire members of the community who are still dragging their feet to register. Ends
