Nhabe Men Sector engages leadership
19 Feb 2019
Nhabe Men Sector has engaged community leaders in Maun in a bid to fight social ills affecting the North West District.
The sector’s chairperson, Mr Obakeng Kheru, said they had realised that traditional and political leaders should be incapacitated in order to bridge the gap between the experts and communities.
He, therefore, said meeting with the community leaders was beginning of their mandate of addressing social ills in the community.
Mr Kheru noted that issues of gender were complex because they were marred with cultural norms, therefore it was important to sensitise the community leaders who will in turn disseminate information among communities.
Mr Kheru stated that the political leadership was also important in the fight against gender abuse.
When commenting, Moeti ward’s Kgosi Cosmos Lelathego, said it was important for community leaders to be sensitised on issues of same sex relationships.
Kgosi Lelathego said they experienced such cases from complainants, but failed to mediate on them since they were not well informed on such matters.
Kgosi Kegaisamang Ramokwena of Boseja ward said same sex relationships should not be tolerated.
Regarding teenage pregnancy, Kgosi Ramokwena said it was important to identify contributing factors such as poverty which he said led some families allowing child marriages.
Kgosi Prince Shashe expressed concern that there were many unreported teenage pregnancy cases in their community. Ends
