Tati Nickel under provisional liquidation

19 Feb 2019

Tati Nickel Mine is currently under provisional liquidation and will be re-opened as and when the liquidator finds an investor, Parliament has been informed. Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Eric Molale said he was informed that the liquidator had received 47 expressions of interest to buy Tati Nickel Mine, but that none of them were concrete offers.

Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi had asked the minister when Tati Nickel Mine would be opened, how many investors had shown interest in buying it, and what the ministry was doing to ensure that machines at the mine were maintained and remained operational during the temporary shutdown.

Mr Molale said it was the duty of the liquidator, as part of his care and maintenance programme, to preserve the assets of the mine including mineral resources and mine equipment.

Mr Molale said government, through his ministry, had provided funding to the liquidator to carry-out this function. “As previously reported to this house, I have appointed a task team to work with the liquidator to amongst others, ensure the preservation of all mine assets,” he said. ENDS
