Chanoga Boseja residents appreciate borehole
18 Feb 2019
Residents of Chanoga Boseja in the Maun East Constituency have thanked the government for provision of water through a borehole that was constructed through the Constituency Fund programme.
The borehole, which has a stand pipe and was constructed at the cost of P320 000, was officially handed over by the Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, also area Member of Parliament, Mr Kostantino Markus on February 15.
Chanoga Boseja is a catchment area of Chanoga village situated on the other side of the river along the Makalamabedi-Francistown road.
In his remarks, Mr Markus said he fought to ensure the settlement realised the dream of having a borehole despite it being ungazetted since it did not qualify to get the status of a village due to its small population, which is around 300.
Mr Markus said human life was important, therefore he had prioritised borehole water provision as a necessity for many areas under his constituency.
Other villages and settlements with ongoing and planned borehole projects, he said, are Mawana, Xhana, Samedupi Boseja, Dikgathong and Xobe 1 and 2.
Mr Markus urged Chanoga Boseja residents to ensure the borehole was taken care of since they would bear costs of repairing it if damaged.
Ms Pedzani Mahama from Maun Administration Authority’s office of the senior assistant council secretary, commended Chanoga Boseja residents for their efforts towards the success of the project.
Ms Mahama observed that the water point was easily picked through the help of a local surveyor and that the water had passed tests by Water Utilities Corporation.
She said residents of Chanoga always displayed team work, an aspect that other villages could learn from them.
In his welcome remarks, Kgosi Oateng Sethodi of Chanoga appreciated the support of the Member of Parliament during the trying times of water shortage.
Kgosi Sethodi also appreciated Maun Administration Authority for the borehole, noting that the water from the river was no longer safe for drinking.
He observed that the borehole produced quality water, which had a good taste.
Nonetheless, Makalamabedi councillor, Mr Boitameto Olebogile decried bad roads in the area and therefore requested the area MP to lobby for construction of roads in the area. ENDS
