One labour dispute at Haskins in 2018

18 Feb 2019

Minister of Employment, Labour Productivity and Skills Development, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo says during 2018 only one labour dispute involving unfair dismissal at Haskins (Pty) Ltd was reported to the labour office on July 4, 2018. Minister Mabeo said the dispute was mediated on August 8, 2018 whereupon the parties failed to reach a settlement.

He said a certificate of failure to settle was issued on the same date for either party to refer the dispute to the Industrial Court for adjudication. Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked the minister if he was aware of the abuse suffered by employees of Haskins (Pty) Ltd at the hands of the operations and marketing manager.

He also wanted the minister to say how many labour cases had been reported to the ministry concerning the company. He also asked the minister if he was aware of the racist remarks directed to employees by the said manager, and what was being done about the misconduct. “My ministry has not received any complaints regarding racist remarks directed to employees by the said manager,” Minister Mabeo further answered.
