The Department of Meteorological Services wishes to inform the public that heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds and lightening are forecast to occur from Tuesday to Saturday.

A press release from the Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism says heavy rainfalls of 50mm or more are expected over most parts of the country.

Moreover, 80mm or more of rainfall is expected over Central District on Friday with possibility of flooding over some areas.

It states that the anticipated rains will be triggered by a westerly trough, which is expected to have started affecting the country from Tuesday and further strengthening into a ‘cut-off’ low pressure system from Wednesday to Thursday, which will induce intense instability across the country.

“Possible impacts of heavy rains, strong winds and lightening might include damage to crops, livestock and create inconvenience to the public in their daily lives,” reads the release.

Therefore, it says members of the public are advised to take necessary precautions and the department will keep monitoring the conditions and update the public accordingly. Ends
