Information Services staff; Kweneng  Bureau has been encouraged to be conscious of the fact that self-awareness is vital in building healthy relationships in the workplace.

Senior trainer from the Botswana Public Service College, Ms Matshediso Ditlhogo said during the bureau’s general staff meeting and team building at Lion Park resort recently that it was important for colleagues to appreciate each other’s strengths and weaknesses towards achieving the organisation’s mandate of disseminating accurate, timely and balanced information through print and online media (Kutlwano and Dailynews).

Ms Ditlhogo said for staff members to attain a productive team, they have to counsel and build themselves at an individual and personal level to maintain self-discipline.

She further urged staff members that the workplace was the most centric place for their lifestyles and where they spent most of their time, hence the need to build healthy relationships and conducive environment as colleagues.

“Team building spirit starts at an individual level, discipline yourself towards how you want to relate with others, do not do some things because you see others behaving in a certain way or because you want to impress someone, you need to fully know one another as colleagues so that even when you have infuriated another person you can pick early and ask for forgiveness,” said Ms Dithogo.

When giving an overview of the meeting, Kweneng Bureau Chief Ms Lorato Okaile said the intention was to strengthen the bureau team, which covers the information services offices in Ramotswa, Letlhakeng, Moochudi and Molepolole.

She expressed hope that the team building and general staff meeting held during the start of the new year would motivate and inspire officers to start on a clean slate and work with refreshed minds.

“Since we are employed on different purposes and for the sake of productivity, we need to understand one another and work well towards achieving our mandate, which is service delivery,” she said. Ends
