District Health Management Team (DHMT) in Kanye has recorded two cases of Malaria in Moshaneng.
District community health nurse, Mr Ralekgotla Mosiamiemang, announced this during an interview recently.
Mr Mosiamiemang explained that on January 7, two boys aged seven and eight from the same household visited Moshana clinic where a rapid diagnostic test was done to determine the cause of their sicknesses and they tested positive.
In addition, he said family members including those residing in Francistown as well as households within 500 metre radius and results came out negative.
He explained that they managed to assess the whole village to determine what could have exposed them to the disease but to no avail adding that they were working around the clock to determine the root cause.
Mr Mosiamiemang said last week, Moshupa DHMT also recorded two cases of the disease in Moshupa and Ranaka but managed to treat the patients.
He noted that Malaria cases were not common in the Southern District but in recent years, the district registered some Malaria cases.
To curb spread of the disease, they intensified public education among Batswana targeting hotspots.
Mr Mosiamiemang said they had engaged environmental experts, dikgosi, village development committees and clinics so as to spread the message.
They also assembled a rapid response team which was on high alert.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness, he noted, were also aware of the cases and were in constant communication.
He encouraged clinics to screen patients whenever they showed symptoms related to Malaria.
He said Malaria symptoms included constant headache, diarrhoea, high temperature.
He, therefore, advised Batswana to seek medical attention before their sickness worsened. ENDS
