Galaxy humble BDF XI

Jwaneng Galaxy FC on February 10 made light work of host, BDF XI FC during an enthralling second leg of the Mascom Top 8 semi-final played at the New Lobatse Stadium.

Galaxy’s striker, Tebogo Sembowa led the vicious on-slaught through two early first half goals that ended the crucial clash with a 3-1 win on aggregate.

Galaxy took the clash by the scruff of the neck from the word go and ran the clock on their opponents through sheer skill, pace and grit. And the two early goals made it very difficult for the opponents to overturn the goal deficit.

Thero Setsile whose transfer to FC Galaxy of South Africa recently flopped, brought a lot of excitement to the game with his trademark speed and hunger.

Setsile also gave the young gritty fighters a necessary push down the road.

Sembowa, who gelled well with striker Setsile, received the ball on the edge of the box in the first five minutes of the game, powered through the defense and unleashed a powerful shot that gave keeper, Tumiso Mashakola no chance.

A little later, Sembowa converted a cross on the right flank and engineered the win after a deadly exchange with Karabo Phiri and Setsile.

Keeagile Kobe caught Galaxy on a weak moment and pulled one from behind but it turned out to be too late for his youthful side.

Galaxy, who had brought along a live band to crank up pressure on opponents, denied them space to play their game especially in the midfield.

As a result BDF seemed to rely on individual brilliance of Kobe, Ralesotla and Abi Modiane among others.

The water tight defence of Ezekiel Morake, Isaac Paeye, Thabo Leinanyane, Thato Kebue and Moagi Sechele however kept Mmoloki Ralesotla at bay.

The win puts Galaxy on a collision course with Gaborone United who beat their cross town rivals Township Rollers 10-9 on penalties on Saturday night.

Galaxy coach, Miguel da Costa said in an interview that he was happy that his charges had achieved the target they set themselves this season.

After putting up a gallant fight, he said he would allow the players to enjoy themselves at the final to be played in Francistown.

Meanwhile, BDF coach Louis Setshwane was not immediately available for interview after the game. ENDS
