Boteti Sub-ditrict to get Internet
10 Feb 2019
Laptops and Internet modems are being procured for Boteti Sub-district officers.
Delivery of such is expected by end of February.
Answering a question from MP for Boteti East Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe recently, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said the laptops were being procured for Social and Community Development (S&CD) officers in Mmatshumo, Mmea, Mosu, Mokubilo and Khwee villages.
Mr Autlwetse said an arrangement had also been made for providing area officers with monthly P200 worth of airtime.
The assistant minister said he was convinced that with the expected delivery of furniture by March 2019 in the said villages, provision of airtime on monthly basis to enhance communication coupled with procurement of laptops and modems, as well as shared vehicles resources, officers would ease service to clients.
He also mentioned that the Social and Community Development offices in the said villages or settlements have adequate office space to accommodate the officers and their clients.
He however admitted that the furniture was old and told the House that orders had been made for new furniture for Boteti Sub-district officers, inclusive of the listed villages.
Mr Autlwetse further said due to shortage of resources, areas were clustered and transport used on shared basis.
“Mokubilo has a vehicle that is shared by officers in Mmea and Makgaba areas while Mosu shares a vehicle with Mmatshumo. Khwee has a vehicle although it is due for boarding and as such it is relieved by a vehicle from Letlhakane,” he said.
Mr Autlwetse also explained that the department had no budget allocation per village, but said a sub-district departmental consolidated budget was used to meet needs of all workers in the entire district.
MP Lelatisitswe had asked the minister to share the status of the S&CD office in the said villages regarding furniture and office space, internet and computer availability and transport.
The legislator also wanted to know if the officer available could give the service to clients such as those in Gaborone and also asked about the budget needed per village. ENDS
