Kweneng Land Board to hasten allocation
07 Feb 2019
Chairperson of Kweneng Land Board (KLB) Mr Moemedi Babitseng says they are aiming to hasten the lagging process of land allocation all over the region through the different sub-land boards.
Mr Babitseng, who was opening the KLB board members meeting gave an update on the progress of different sub-land boards in regard to the allocation of land, with Lephepe leading the pack at 80.7 per cent.
Others are Lentsweletau at 78.8 per cent, Letlhakeng 61.1, Thamaga 38.5, Molepolole 32.2 and Mogoditshane 30.2 per cent respectively.
He revealed that for the reporting period October to December 2018, 244 ploughing fields were allocated to those who had been on the waiting list.
“Residential plot allocations totaled 146 for the same period,” he said.
He also explained that their focus would not only be directed at accelerating allocation of residential plots and ploughing land, but to also ensure that private livestock ranches and the commercial arable farms were included.
“Kweneng Land Board has now prepared with the assistance of sister departments, ranch, and farm feasibility reports in two areas being KW 6, a belt of land found in
Motokwe area of jurisdiction, which was dezoned through a Presidential Directive, CAB 2012, from a wildlife management area and converted to livestock and game ranches,” he said.
This also includes an area located between Kweneng settlement and Boatlaname in the Lephepe area of jurisdiction, which has been zoned for commercial arable agriculture by the District Integrated Land Use Plan Instrument.
He further revealed that the portion of land KW 6 measures 71 966ha, while the area for commercial arable agriculture measures 9 152 75 hectares.
Mr Babitseng said the layout plans for the two areas had been prepared and consultations with stakeholders were ongoing in order to incorporate their views into the final product.
“Subsequently, if all goes according to plan, it is intended that the ranches and farms shall be disposed off through a public tender before the end of August,” he said.
He noted that this would be achieved through extensive consultation with stakeholders including Kweneng District Council, Water Utilities Corporation and the community through kgotla meetings.
Concerning the LAPCAS project, he stated that KLB was currently at 46 per cent.
A board member of the mainland board, Mr Maoto Khudu encouraged heads of sub land boards not to wait for developments to arrive at their areas before allocating land, saying such a delay caused a long waiting list.
He advised that the people must be allocated land first then developments and resources would reach them when they already have land. Ends
