A desire to own a business and be independent drove former Home-Economics teacher, Ms Phatsimo Mmoni of Molepolole to venture into catering and décor.
The 34 year-old said in an interview that she turned to entrepreneurship after six years of teaching noting that décor and cake-making were her first business interests since they were related to the subject she used to teach.
Her business, Mme Motsoadi Holdings, started in 2017, targeting customers in Molepolole and surrounding areas.
Ms Mmoni said she assisted with tents, décor and specialised in cake making, a craft she learnt in South Africa.
She said she displayed her work near the shops in Molepolole to market herself.
Ms Mmoni said her main challenge was lack of commitment from the youth she often engaged.
“Although there is high unemployment among youth, it is not easy to find reliable people to work with. Most disappear after getting paid even if you tell them of other upcoming events,” she said.
Ms Mmoni said customers wanted perfection but were reluctant to pay.
She said she wished to expand her business given that it was seasonal.
She encouraged youth not to waste time complaining but find solutions to their challenges ENDS
