Former Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) councillor for Mafhikana Ward in Kanye, Mr Kgaboethata Ramotadima, has died.

Mr Ramotadima died on Tuesday after a short illness.

In an interview, Kanye Administrative Authority  council chairperson, Mr Tlhomamo Dibeela, said the council was saddened by the death of Mr Ramotadima.

Mr Dibeela described Mr Ramotadima as a partriot and democrat, who left behind a legacy.

He also described the death of Mr Ramotadima as a great loss to BDP because it came at a time when his assistance and influence was needed the most towards the upcoming elections.

He noted that Mr Ramotadima taught them the importance of electing the sub-committee structures, ensuring that they remained relevant as a way of reducing conflicts within the party structures.

“Mr Ramotadima was good at policy teaching. He had laid a good foundation for us in Mafhikana ward, through mobilisation of the BDP structures, attracting a lot of followers in his ward,”he said.

Mr Dibeela noted that although he had retired, Mr Ramotadima was renowned for making follow ups on people who were assisted through government programmes.

For her part, Ms Kebafilwe Ramotadima, said her husband died at the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Kanye.

Ms Ramotadima described his death as sudden because he had been on good health.

She described her husband as energetic, lively and knowledgeable individual who had passion for serving the community.

“During his term as a councillor, he played a major role in the development of infrastructure such as construction of Mafhikana Post Office, Ketlogetswe Primary School and Sekao Community Hall,” she said.

She noted that Mr Ramotadima worked in South Africa in the 70’s and later led the Village Development Committiee, before joining politics.

He was elected as councillor for four terms before retiring in 2014.

Mr Ramotadima is survived by his wife, two daughters and three grandchildren and will be laid to rest on Tuesday next week. ENDS
