Assistant Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services says Kgatleng Land Board has already planned and demarcated 21 horticultural plots along the Madikwe River.
Mr Itumeleng Moipisi was responding to a question from MP for Mochudi East, Mr Moagi Molebatsi in Parliament on Wednesday.
The assistant minister further explained that “Notwane River as a physical feature already traverses different types of existing land uses, including an existing and growing built up area of Mochudi village.”
He noted that where feasible, the process of changing defined land uses could be considered to accommodate other desired land uses, including horticulture.
Furthermore, he told Parliament that a border fence from Tlokweng to Sikwane was constructed in the late 1970’s after the finalisation of the Botswana/South Africa boundary treaty, and was currently undergoing routine maintenance as per the treaty.
The Mochudi East MP had asked the minister if he would consider demarcating land for horticultural fields along the eastern side of Notwane River up to Dikgatlhong and alongside the Limpopo and Madikwe Rivers in the Kgatleng area He also wanted to know when the minister would erect a border fence from Tlokweng to Sikwane Border.ENDS
