06 Feb 2019

The Department of Trade and Consumer Affairs official, Mr Kabelo Mosimanyana, has implored the business community to abide by laws regulating their businesses.

The plea came during a business workshop convened by Good Hope Sub-district Council.

It was aimed at educating entrepreneurs  on operations and to draw lessons and knowledge from the department on how to expand their businesseses.

Mr Mosimanyana cautioned that failure to comply with regulations could result in suspension of a licence or revocation.

He further said such measures were not meant to stifle them from doing business but to guide them to do what was expected by the law.

He advised them to seek help from the licencing committee in their areas of operation, should they have any complaint regarding doing business.

Chief bye-law enforcement technician, Mr Kebuamotse Kebuamotse, echoed sentiments that it was essential for the business community to comply with the law.

He said business people should give local products priority since they had an obligation to grow their own economy.

Mr Kebuamotse said they wished to see businesses grow and this could be achieved if there was cooperation between them and the businesses.

For his part, Good Hope Sub-district Council principal health technician, Mr Omphile Kamodi advised the business community to always provide necessary equipment required for safety.

He said hygiene was important, adding that the council had services in place such as refuse collection.

Licensing committee chairman, Mr Falaki Mononi, stated that the law was meant to protect and not deter them from doing business.

Mr Mononi said they should turn challenges into opportunities.

He advised that when they wanted to apply for licences, they should submit necessary prerequisites to enable smooth processing. ENDS
