Prudence use of constituency fund critical

05 Feb 2019

Member of Parliament for Serowe South, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, has implored constituents to help prioritise projects funded by the constituency fund.

Addressing kgotla meetings in Sehonou, Moiyabana and Mogorosi Dr Venson-Moitoi said each of the 10 villages in her constituency would get P1 million.

She said projects chosen should benefit the community and collective planning between public officers and the community was important.

Dr Venson-Moitoi stated that government wanted to see quality projects done without any delay.

She said she was keen to engage dikgosi, VDCs and the communities on the socio-economic programme especially its implementation in rural areas.

Government, she said, was concerned about gender based violence and had declared war against it.

She said though she was retiring from Parliament, she would not be lost to the community.

She thanked the electorates for the support in the 15 years she served as their MP, adding that they worked as a team to bring developments amid challenges.

Residents commended her for her hard work and wished her well.

Kgosi Sianang Gabagopolwe of Sehunou appreciated Dr Venson-Moitoi for developing the village.

He said she ensured presence of electricity, water supply, accommodation for public servants and a primary school with hostels for RADS pupils.

He stated that she helped create employment for RADS communities.

Kgosi Gabagopolwe said the Poverty Eradication Programme had benefited most in his village, adding that many owned cattle and goats.

He, however, requested more police officers at the kgotla and for it to be upgraded.

Kgosi Gabagopolwe also requested a health post.

VDC chairperson, Mr Onkemetse Maleba said the Economic Stimulus Programme and the Youth Development Fund had benefited most youth.

High crime rate which included rape, stock theft and common assault remained a worry in the village.

Kgosi Mokopakgomo Kgomokgwana of Moiyabana appreciated developments made possible through the constituency fund.

He said they were aware that the country’s economic standing was not what it used to be. Ends
