Extra Chilli defied all odds to become the Under 12 months speed champion in a Botswana Greyhound Association event held in Mmopane on February 2.

Although spectators had ruled out Extra Chilli after he finished second in heat two of the Mmopane Sprint Classics, which was won by Wrong Turn, Extra Chilli had an ace up his legs as he beat King Monada of Gripens Kennels to win the race.

Extra Chilli outpaced both King Monada and Wrong Turn to win the entertaining race, as he dominated the race from the start to the finish.

On position two was Wrong Turn followed by Follow the Leader while King Monada finished fourth.

Extra Chilli’s trainer, Thabo Tshwenyego said he was happy with his speed hounds performance, adding that they had prepared well for the competition.

Another mouthwatering encounter was in the open males 200m category where Strider stole the show, beating favourate Quick Silver of Falcon Kennels.

Quick Silver is Ghanzi Agricultural Show and National Agricultural Show champion. No one gave Strider a chance and they predicted a walk in the park for Quick Silver.   

But that was not to be as Strider finished first followed by Quick Silver and Thunderbolt also from Falcon Kennels on third place.

Strider’s trainer, Matla Sephatla said he was happy with his dog’s performance, adding that they had prepared well for the event.

In the open female 200 metres category, Hot Wave finished on position one followed by Hot Tracer while position three went to Silver Dollar.

In the Under 15 months category for 200m, Sonic Flight was declared the champion  after beating  Superman and Inferno.

In the open cross female category, Thunder Queen finished on position one followed by Lacey while Bad Girl finished on position three. ENDS
