Minister of Basic Education (MoBE), Mr Bagalatia Arone has commended Ditshukudu Primary School for scooping position one in the Kweneng region with 100 per cent pass rate during the 2018 Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE).
“I would like to commend teachers, parents and the community for your great achievement despite being situated where there is a high lack of resources,” he said
When addressing parents and teachers that had gathered for his visit, Minister Arone pointed out that government’s mandate was to ensure 100 per cent literacy through MoBE.
He further stated that the education system could only be improved if teachers, parents and the leadership owned the responsibility of their children’s education, adding that, “leadership is all about providing services and accepting responsibility to work in unity.”
Responding to concerns of classroom shortage and teaching material raised by the school administration, the minister explained that coordination between MoBE and the regional council had to improve in regards to the development of school infrastructure.
Giving an overview of the school’s performance, Ditshukudu school head, Ms Magdeline Otile noted that the school had a history of good performance with 100 per cent pass rate since 2016 despite the low pupil intake which ranged between 80-100 pupils every year.
Ms Otile expressed concern that pupils travelled long distances to get to school while there was no Internet connection to facilitate research by teachers to augment their teaching material.
Despite the challenges, she attributed the school’s excellent results to unity between the community leadership, parents and teachers. ENDS
