Tshukudu Metals Botswana has donated 150 books to Ghanzi Public Library to be used by pupils and the public.
Officially receiving the books on February 1, Ghanzi Public Library head of station, Ms Nonhlahla Maniki said the books would benefit and empower the library users.
She said she hoped that their collaboration with Tshukudu Metals Botswana would go a long way as there was still more to be done for the library to grow.
Principal education officer in Ghanzi region, Mr Mothusi Morake said it was not the first time the company has donated books to schools in his region.
He said the donations have helped as there has been an improvement in the Primary School Leaving Examinations.
He applauded Ghanzi Public Library as they have helped schools improve their results through their outreach programme which they took to different schools in Ghanzi such as Kuke, West
Hanahanai and East Hanahai.
He said the library has continued to help schools in the township through the establishment of reading clubs.
However, he urged the library to expand their outreach programme to other schools in the region such as Qabo and Groootlagte.
He also appealed to Tshukudu Metals Botswana to consider adopting a special unit class at Kgaphamadi Primary School as it was under resourced.
An official from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development, Mr Rock Mphela thanked Tshukudu Metals for the donation, saying books were a lifetime gift that would always be found in the library.
He urged the library staff to take care of the books so that they could benefit the community.
He also urged the community to develop the culture of reading by visiting the library and even using the Internet to keep themselves informed.
Kgaphamadi Village Development Committie chairperson, Ms Dorah Moyo said they welcomed the donation as it would empower the community, especially the youth and school going children as they were the future leaders.
She urged Tshukudu Metals to continue identifying their needs and help where they could to empower and help develop the community.
She further urged Tshukudu Metals to continue employing residents of Ghanzi, as it would reduce the rate of unemployment in the district. ENDS
