Mahalapye police are investigating a case in which a four-year old child was found hanging from a tree at Masokwane cattle post.

Officer Commanding District No. 16, Senior Superintendent Modisaotsile Bonang stated in an interview that the incident was reported on January 25.

He said the boy, who was reportedly left in the care of his grandmother, was playing with his six-year-old brother while their grandmother was doing laundry.

It was only when the older sibling came home that the woman wondered on the whereabouts of the young boy. 

When asked as to where his younger brother was, he pointed to the direction where he was coming from and the young boy was spotted hanging from a tree nearby, he said.

Senior Supt Bonang said the child was certified dead  at Mahalapye district hospital.

He said police were still investigating the cause of death. Mr Bonang also advised parents to take care of their kids and be aware of their whereabouts at all times.

Still in Mahalapye police were also investigating an incident in which a sedan car smashed into a house in Mahalapye on January 26.

Mr Bonang said they suspected that the driver must have lost control of the vehicle and ultimately smashing the car into one of the residential houses.

Senior Supt Bonang said the 32-year-old woman who was sleeping inside the house sustained injuries and was admitted at Mahalapye hospital.

He said there were three people inside the car and they were yet to establish as to who was behind the steering wheel. 

He said one of the three was certified dead at the hospital while the other two sustained injuries and were assisting the police in their investigations. ENDS
