Company to offer women self-defence tips

30 Jan 2019

Bonvioc Holdings has planned a series of self-defence seminars targeting women and children in preparation for the Security and Defence Expo Botswana billed for Gaborone on May 23.

Speaking in an interview, company director, Mr Victor Leshomo, said the seminars, which commence on February 2 were meant to create an opportunity for women to learn tips on how to empower and protect themselves.

He said it was only for women and children from the ages of seven to 65 who would be equipped with prevention and basic self-defence techniques.

The director said the series was born out of the realisation that women and children remained vulnerable and faced several security threats such as human trafficking, rape, burglary, robbery and attacks at nightclubs.

Mr Leshomo explained that the seminars were a build-up to the expo.

“Our main focus areas in the seminar is to offer Batswana women at large training and equip them with skills in self-defence, because statistics show that over the past 10 years more women have been falling victim to rape and robbery incidents than ever before.

Every week we will be demonstrating defence skills to women and children at large on how they can defend themselves during violent situations or any security threat,” he said.

The seminars will be facilitated by the International Kung Fu and Healing Centre Botswana, Botswana Tang Soo Do Association and Security and Defence Expo 2019.

He said participants would be required to pay a P200 fee for the two-hour session beginning at 10 in the morning.

Mr Leshomo advised participants to come dressed in loose clothing, be prepared for easy physical exertion and to bring a bottle of water, sweat towel and a notebook. ENDS
