Ms Gloria Tlhabare of Boro 1 in Maun is the winner of Toyota Etios at Lewis Furniture’s store car competition held on January 24.
The store’s regional controller, Mr Edison Lundisani, explained that the annual competition was meant to reward loyal customers.
He said they were pleased that one of the winners was from Maun.
He explained that to enter the car competition, a customer had to buy furniture on hire purchase.
Mr Lundisani stated that Lewis originates from Britain and is South Africa’s single largest furniture brand.
He said the company spread its wings across Southern Africa.
He added that buying through hire purchase accorded everyone an opportunity to buy the furniture by paying little at a time.
Mr Lundisani stated that they also had a social corporate responsibility.
He indicated that they previously assisted different NGOs in Maun and countrywide such as SOS, feed-a-child and assisted some schools with furniture and cash.
For his part, Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) deputy leader, Mr Dumelang Saleshando, expressed gratitude to Lewis store for giving back to the community.
He noted that most companies that traded in Botswana only paid tax to the government, but never assisted communities within which they operated.
Mr Saleshando said time had come for Botswana to enforce law that would force companies to give back to the community.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Ms Tlhabare, could not hide her excitement and thanked God and the furniture store for the vehicle, which she said would transform her life. ENDS
