28 Jan 2019

Spar Supermarket branch manager in Mahalapye, Mr Joseph Jankie, has appealed to individuals and companies to support Mothers Union Orphan Care Centre.

The centre promotes child welfare and is aided by The United States Agency for International Development.

Officiating during a handover ceremony of 150 toiletry hampers worth P10 000 by Spar to Mother’s union on Thursday, Mr Jankie said the donation was their way of giving back to the community.

He said Spar donated a garden worth P17 000 to the centre last year to mark the five-year friendship between the two organisations.

Mr Jankie said though the garden was managed by Spar, its harvest benefited the centre.

He pleaded with the community to help the organisation groom future leaders.

“Parents, let’s have a role to play, avail yourselves and assist the organisation,” stated Mr Janki.

He said the supermarket existed with help from the community hence there the need to assist.

Kgosi Sanie Mollentze of Ngwape pleaded with the parents to take good care of their children.

“I encourage you to be responsible for your children’s well-being and see to it that your children are safe,” he stated.

He also advised them not to leave their children with their grandparents so that they could only go and enjoy life in the cities.

Kgosi Mollentze appreciated Spar for playing a role in the community.

For her part, Mahalapye North councillor, Ms Julia Miranda, said it was government’s wish for all citizens to lead dignified lives.

She said children raised in a loving environment went far in life adding that love was the most precious gift a child could get.

Cllr Miranda offered to help in raising the children and appeal to Ipelegeng coordinators to help clean the school environment.

The centre coordinator, Ms Lesedi Selogelo, appreciated the friendship between them and Spar.

She said the centre existed to help orphans, needy and vulnerable children of Mahalapye and surrounding villages.

Ms Selogelo was however, concerned that some children did not have birth certificates. ENDS
