Police have once again appealed to members of the public to always seek help from authorities if they find themselves in disputes rather than resorting to violence.
This follows yet another murder incident in which a 42-year-old man was stabbed to death by a 36-year-old man in Gaborone West’s Phase I location subsequent to a dispute over a cellphone.
Gaborone West Police Station commander Superintendent Onious Madziba said in an interview that the accused, Tumisang Mompati had already appeared before Gaborone Village Magistrate Court on a single count of murder.
Superintendent Madziba said the victim was rushed to the hospital by the police, who had dashed to the scene after receiving the call, was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.
He said it was alleged that the accused owed the victim a cellphone, which he demanded and a fight ensued between the two, resulting in the death of one of the men.
Superintendent Madziba said it would worthwhile for parties involved in a dispute to engage authorities such as the police, dikgosi, pastors, village elders among others to help resolve their misunderstanding, instead of resorting to violence.
According to Superintendent Madziba, the accused has been remanded in custody and will appear again on February 5 while police investigations continue. ENDS
