Bakers-man dreams big
23 Jan 2019
The story of a young bakers-man who goes around tuck-shops and offices in Molepolole supplying assorted muffins, scones and other kinds of well-prepared confectionaries riding a bicycle reveals how determined and committed Mr Gaofengwe Monnahela is.
The 36-year-old said he started his business in 2016.
Boosting of more than 15 years experience in the baking industry including as an employee, he saved money that he used as start-up capital.
Through some of his profit, he bought a bicycle that he used for delivery.
“The bicycle is helping me a lot as I can now work for eight hours instead of the initial two on foot, and my profits have quadrupled,” he said.
The baker who preferred wearing white said he noticed that there was difference in earnings from when he was still an employee.
The Horizon Junxion company owner said he had a business network with small and medium business as well as Kweneng District Council who bought bread from him.
“I always wear white to sensitize people on cleanliness and proper handling of food as someone who handles food should always be clean and neat, starting with utensils and the environment,’’ he added.
He also revealed that wearing white also attracted customers’ attention.
“Sometimes I put a radio on my bicycle and play music as a way of advertising my products along the streets of Molepolole,” he said.
He said his intention was to apply for funding from Citizen Entrepreneurship Development Agency (CEDA) to boost his production and move to a busier place. He said he was using four microwave oven stoves he purchased when he started baking.
The self-acclaimed bread guru appealed for support for small and medium business showing potential like his.
Mr Monnahela urged aspiring entrepreneurs to do proper record keeping for their businesses to monitor progress. ENDS
