Nata police are investigating a case of murder, arson and suicide which happened on January 19.

In an interview, Assistant Superintendent Phetogo Philmon said they received a report on January 19 that a man was lying motionless at Sexhara cattle post, about 35 kilometres from Zoroga, after he was allegedly hit with an axe on the head during a quarrel over a girl.

Assistant Superintendent Philmon explained that on arrival at the scene, they found the motionless body of 33-year-old man of Zoroga, and that they took him to Gweta Primary Hospital where he was certified dead. He said the police also found two houses which were allegedly burnt down by the same perpetrator who fled the scene with the girl who was at the centre of the quarrel.

He said other police officers remained at the scene to search for the perpetrator aged 24 of Gweta. He added that because of the bad weather they stopped the search on Saturday night and continued the following morning. He said their search paid off when they found the 20-year-girl also of Zoroga lying in a pool of blood.

The alleged perpetrator of the two murders was found hanging just a few metres from the girl’s motionless body. Assistant Superintendent Philmon said the bodies of the deceased were at Gweta Primary Hospital mortuary, and that their next of kin have been notified.

He appealed to partners and families to seek help when they had misunderstandings, adding that the police could also help. ENDS
