Molefhi commends schools
22 Jan 2019
Member of Parliament for Selebi Phikwe Mr Nonofo Molefhi commended schools in Selebi Phikwe for good performance.
Addressing Village Development Committees (VDC) in his constituency, Mr Molefhi applauded the good performance that Selebi Phikwe schools continued to show over the years, saying that it was a good thing for the town to maintain this outstanding performance.
He urged parents to continue giving their children support and ensuring that they perform to the best of their ability.
Mr Molefhi said unity between parents, teachers and children would take the town to greater heights.
On other issues, Mr Molefhi urged VDC members to monitor projects undertaken in their respective areas, particularly projects financed through the constituency fund.
He said Selebi Phikwe East constituency, like other constituencies, was allocated P10m for constituency development, therefore the funds should be used to undertake projects that were agreed on.
Mr Molefhi said the funds should be managed by both the council and the VDC.
He also urged them to ensure that the market stalls were put back into good shape so that people could rent them.
In addition, he urged them to come up with initiatives to generate income and create employment for the people of Selebi Phikwe, adding that there was 20 hectares of land reserved for the people of Selibe Phikwe.
The minister said it was high time that the piece of land was developed to sustain the people in this area.
He said the P10m could be used for that purpose.
The Umbrella Ward Development Committee chairperson Mr Mmopiemang Basebi raised a concern over the mass movement of people who left Selebi Phikwe for greener pastures.
He said the BCL mine closure had seriously affected the local economy, calling for the government to extend the accommodation period for former BCL mine employees who had not yet vacated the houses. ENDS
