Dare to Dream dares children to aim high

22 Jan 2019

The founder and president of Dare to Dream, Captain Kgomotso Phatsima said it was disheartening to see children walking barefoot as a result of poverty.

Speaking during the donation of shoes to some Serinane Primary School pupils on January 18, Captain Phatsima said her organisation was interested in helping where there was a need to better the lives of the underprivileged.

She said they had an objective to donate 1 000 pairs of shoes across Botswana to pupils from less privileged families.

She said that the passion to assist emanated from the fact that she too struggled in life when she was growing up, something she does not wish for any pupil.

She said Dare to Dream was a social enterprise dedicated to the advancement of youth, women and girls in aviation and aerospace through awareness and equipping the upcoming generation with business and entrepreneurial skills.

Captain Phatsima, who is one of the first female Botswana Defence Force pilots said Dare To Dream was also interested in encouraging young people to take their education seriously and help them have a stern foundation on robotics and coding, drone technology, youth business aviation events, youth leadership conferences, aviation career expos and aviation and space workshop, among others.

Captain Phatsima then urged sponsors to come on board in helping the organisation achieve its dreams as this would assist them in their efforts to leave no child behind.

She expressed her gratitude to their sponsors, whom she said had played a part in realising their dream, adding that they still needed more assistance.

For his part, councillor for Mantshwabisi, Mr Meshack Tshenyego urged parents to help their children take care of the gifts given to them.

He criticised parents who had a habit of selling gifts meant to uplift them, insisting that it killed the value of a helping hand and the gifts themselves.

He pleaded with parents to support the dreams of their children so that they grow up to be better people in the society. Ends
