Motswedi SACCOS donates to Sehunou Primary School

22 Jan 2019

Motswedi Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCOS) recently donated toiletries and sanitary pads worth P25 000 to Sehonou Primary School pupils in the Central District.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Motswedi SACCOS board member, Mr Mpho Phologolo, said the donation would help deter girls’ absenteeism due to lack of sanitary pads.

“A gift opens the way and ushers the giver into the presence of the great,” said Mr Phologolo.

He encouraged pupils to invest their time in studying and stay away from trouble.

Mr Phologolo said they discovered that the school needed assistance during one of their regular meetings and thereafter, mobilised members to contribute P50 every month.

When handing over the toiletries, Motswedi SACCOS general manager, Ms Onalenna Moshabi said their aim was to ensure that children in remote areas were able to go school without worrying about their hygiene.

Ms Moshabi said it had come to their attention that most parents were unable to buy sanitary pads for their children and that contributed to girl pupils’ absenteeism.

“Community social responsibility is very close to our hearts at Motswedi Savings and Credit Co-operative and we believe in the empowerment and betterment of the society we live in,” said Ms Moshabi who added that giving back to the community gave them a sense of purpose in as individuals and the organisation as a whole.
