MEWT will not amend Act
06 Aug 2013
Ministry will not consider amending section 87 of the Wildlife Conservation and National Parks Act because it does not contravene sections 4 and 7 of the Constitution, says the Minister of Environment, Wildlife and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama.
Responding to a question in Parliament on Monday, Minister Khama said the Constitution allowed for exceptions to the provisions of both section 4 and 7 by the authority of written law.
He said sections 4 and 7 of the Constitution provided for protection of the right to life and the protection from inhuman treatment respectively. MP for Nata/Gweta, Mr Rayner Makosha had asked the minister if he would consider amending section 87, which seemed to contravene sections 4 and 7 of the Constitution of Botswana. ENDS
