Landboard to repossess undeveloped business plots
20 Jan 2019
Owners of undeveloped business plots have been warned of repossession unless they make some development.
Briefing Member of Parliament for Shashe West Mr Fidelis Molao’s kgotla meeting in Makobo recently, Marapong Sub- landboard deputy secretary Mr Elmar Kwelegano said Makobo had more than 50 business plots and only three had been developed.
He said it had resulted in the main landboard considering repossessing such plots, adding that at a recent board meeting it was agreed that the owners be notified about the planned actions.
Mr Kwelegano further highlighted that those allocated such plots were given a year to have started developments on their plots, saying in addition to not making developments, the owners were also failing to pay up their lease agreements.
He pointed out that even if the plots were repossessed, the owners would still be liable to paying up the accumulated lease arrears.
He said it was advisable for people to tell the landboard the problems that prevented them from developing their plots.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Adam Makobo complained that although they had relocated from Tutume Sub-district, which had Marapong as a Sub-landboard, they were getting all other government services from Tonota Sub-district, which he said was far.
On other issues, Kgosi Makobo complained about office furniture, which he said was worn out.
He further said they had built a kgotla shelter using constituency fund, but appealed for kgotla offices to be upgraded because currently they were crowded in two roomed offices together with police officers and the court clerk.
For his part, Mr Molao said they had agreed in the past meetings that the kgotla offices were going to be built through the constituency fund during the second phase of the fund of 2018/2019.
He, as such, said since the fund was still left with a few months to come to an end, he was confident that the kgotla offices could be built.
On the relocation, he said he would liaise with relevant authorities to address the matter. ENDS
