Number of illegal immigrants worries dikgosi

16 Jan 2019

Kgosi Shadreck Mphala of Maitengwe village has expressed concern about the number of illegal migrants in the country.

In an interview with BOPA, Kgosi Mphala commended the police and Botswana Defence Force for the great job of catching illegal immigrants who cross at Maitengwe and surrounding areas enroute to South Africa.

He also raised concern about some residents who employ such people and then come forth to report stolen goods which they mostly suspect to have been stolen by the very people they illegally employed.

He further noted that some of the illegal immigrants they catch have no money, which makes one wonder how they would reach South Africa, saying such people may resort to crime to feed themselves and fuel their cars on the way. Kgosi Mphala said though the police catch and send them back home with the support of department of immigration and citizenship, they always come back, some even on the very same day they are deported.

He appealed to the community to stop providing work for illegal immigrants, as some of them end up stealing livestock and crossing it over to their native country, while some commit gruesome crimes. ENDS
