Primary schools specialisation still being considered

16 Jan 2019

Member of Parliament for Shashe West, Mr Fidelis Molao has informed residents of Sebina that specialisation in primary schools is still being deliberated on.

Mr Molao was responding to a concerned raised by residents at a kgotla meeting in Sebina on January 14, that the primary school in their village was not doing well and proposed that maybe it was time government considered specialisation at primary level.

Residents noted that some teachers were not capable of teaching all the subjects.

The said specialisation might improve results, they said.

Mr Molao said for rationalisation to be started in primary schools, several factors needed to be assessed and addressed so that the intended results could be achieved.

He said the current arrangement was ideal, but promised residents that he would take up the matter with the Ministry of Basic Education.

Furthermore, Mr Molao also Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education Research Science and Technology urged parents to understand that education needed partnership between teachers and parents if results were to be realised.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Shathani Kgakanyane said the youth in Sebina sold dagga willy nilly and did so even to children.

She however, commended the police for doing their best in fighting crime, adding that for the first time in many years they had a peaceful festive season last year that was without any mortalities.

In response, Mr Molao said crime required partnership between the police and the community, adding that those committing crime were members of the community.

He said those with information on perpetrators should assist the police.

Mr Molao said government had increased the penalty for possession and selling of dagga as a deterrent measure.

He appealed to parents to advise children to find other means of survival rather than selling drugs.

Mr Molao informed residents that construction of a police station at Sebina was scheduled to start in the 2019/2020 financial year. ENDS
