Govt secures funds for Kachikau-Parakarungu road

16 Jan 2019

Government has secured funds for maintenance of Kachikau-Parakarungu road.

This was prompted by the fact that the 90km road was prone to flooding.

The information came to light during a kgotla meeting addressed by Chobe MP, Mr Machana Shamukuni in Parakarungu recently.

Mr Shamukuni said the electrification project at Chitudza ward was completed, therefore residents could now submit applications to electrify their homes.

He informed residents that the construction of Kasane hospital and the mini stadium were on cards and urged them to use constituency funds to address issues of major concern.

Earlier, residents had complained about the state of the Kachikau-Parakarungu road which they said made travelling difficult especially during the rainy season.

They appreciated gravelling of internal roads since that allowed for the use of even smaller cars.

Mr Mathews Zambo complained that the roads were not wide enough and did not allow spaces for stops or enable one to make a U-turn.

Residents also complained that Liswaani Junior Secondary Secondary in Kachikau was not hospitable.
Mr Petrous Motheo said he was particularly concerned with the state of the hostels.

He said some had broken windows, some were without doors others had no lighting and most had no mattresses.

Another concern was shortage of water to which residents said they spent close to three weeks over the festive holidays without water.

For her part, the Chobe regional operations director, Ms Lillian Matshameko, said she was aware of the issues at Liswaani JSS but assured residents that a contractor was working on maintenance of the school.

She said they had hoped the school would be maintained before school opened but the contractor did not finish on time.

Ms Matshameko appealed to parents to help in disciplining pupils to address vandalism of school property.

Responding to water shortage, the assistant minister assured residents that Water Utilities Corporation was working on building a water tank in Satau to supply the two villages. Ends
