Modipe Social Club extends helping hand

15 Jan 2019

Modipe Social Club of Modipane and Mokatse villages recently donated stationery to Modipane Primary School.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony on January 11, the treasurer of the club, Mr Obakeng Mmileng said they saw it fit to help the school with stationery.

Mr Mmileng said they have mandated themselves to have an annual charity event to raise money and donate to the community.

He noted that the club was formed in 2015, and that it made money through monthly subscriptions and fundraising activities, adding however that they were not enough and urged the community leadership to assist them where possible.

He thanked all those who took part in the club’s fundraising activities among them Modville Fitness Club, area councillor, Mr Obitseng Malesele and other individuals who made the events a success.

Kgosi Keabetswe Molefe of Mokatse said he was happy to see clubs giving back to the community, and he encouraged them to keep up the spirit.

Kgosi Molefe said he would engage with the two villages’ leadership to see what could be done to ensure the school maintains its excellent academic record.

The school head, Ms Sarah Jack said the school was facing a lot of challenges as parents were not engaged in their children’s school work.

Ms Jack decried the shortage of infrastructure, saying pupils were congested in classrooms and urged stakeholders to assist them to achieve better results.

Guidance and counseling teacher, Mr Gavin Makgatlhe urged parents to partake in children’s school work and in their behavioural change as most of them portrayed bad character.

He said most of the pupils did not attend school properly, which affected their school work and eventually affected the school’s pass rate.
Items donated included 55 rotatrim rims and toner all amounting to P3 500. ENDS
