Gerald police arrest suspected robbers

Gerald police in Francistown have arrested four men on allegations of robbery of a motor vehicle which happened on Sunday morning.

Acting Station Commander, Assistant Superintendent Moore Motsokono confirmed that the suspects, who are yet to appear in court, were in their custody.

In an interview on January 14, Supt Motsokono explained that the accused were Batswana in their 20’s and were alleged to have robbed a middle-aged man of his vehicle on Sunday morning around 5 am.

He said the incident took place at Gerald Estates when the victim was on his way from Shashemooke.

He noted that the the stolen vehicle was recovered at a nearby farm close to Matsitama, adding that it was damaged after being involved in an accident.

The accused are expected to appear before Francistown magistrate.

If found guilty, Assistant Supt Motsokono explained that they may face a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of 20 years imprisonment.

He advised drivers to be careful and alert whenever they stopped anywhere and further cautioned them to avoid stopping for strangers.

He further noted that in his policing area, burglaries were the most worrisome crimes they recorded.

He advised people to always leave someone at home and to be active in crime fighting initiatives such as neighbourhood watch committees. ENDS
