Students need encouragement

Dupa Enterprises managing director, Mr Shingiso Oaitse has emphasised the importance of recognising outstanding performance.
Speaking at Mpiti Primary School 2012 standard seven victory party at Matobo in Tutume Sub-district recently, Mr Oaitse said it was through such ceremonies that students were able to improve their performance. He encouraged parents to take keen interest in their children’s education because failure to do so led to poor examination results.
“I want to make it clear that this could not have been possible without combined efforts by teachers, parents and the students,” he said. He also encouraged the school management, teachers, Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and village leadership to maintain the good spirit for their children.
Nevertheless, Mr Oaitse also acknowledged challenges such as poverty that some students were faced with. To that, he said there were programmes geared towards assisting students to face today’s challenges such as Adopt-a-school and Adopt-a-child.
Thus, he implored other business people to lend a helping hand to communities in which they operated their businesses to advance the cause of education to children. Again, he said there were some children who were capable but lacked financial resources to support them throughout their schooling.
Furthermore, he said it was important for parents to encourage their children to take their education seriously as well as guide them in choosing the right courses that would benefit them and the country.
A senior teacher, Ms Polite Hulela noted that some children travelled long distances to and from school, something that she argued impacted negatively on their school work. Ms Hulela also indicated that lack of electricity at the school also affected students’ performances.
“Despite these challenges, the school obtained position one in Nkange constituency with 85 per cent out of 18 schools,” she however said.
On other developments in the school, she said they have had held some sponsored walks, through which they managed to build a dumping site, poultry house and a cultural village. ENDS
