Eleven Angels wallops Calendar Stars 7-1

Eleven Angels won 7-1 in their Debswana First Division north campaign against cross town rivals, Calendar Stars at the old Francistown Stadium on January 13.

Before the Sunday game, the Seemo Sixteen’ Mpatane led charges had played two derbies against Francistown City Greens where they won 3-2 and then took on log leaders Tafic who thrashed them 4-1.

Angels, which is mostly dominated by youngsters and led by the youngest coach in the league at only 27-years-old, have been playing well since the start of the season.

The win pushed them up to position four with 15 points.

Angels did not win the game by sheers luck, as the players showed hunger and determination at every game and the Sunday encounter was not an exception.

They made their intention to defeat Calendar Stars known, early on by launching countless scathing attacks.

The fumbling Stars defenders finally gave way to what turned out to be an avalanche of goals.

The first Angels goal rolled into the net effortlessly on the 21st minutes through Mooketsi Simon to give his side a 1-0 lead.

On the 41st minutes, a corner kick by Angels’ Montsi Dichaba found Tshokolo Sebawe who flicked it in with his right foot to extend the lead to 2-0.

Lekgamu la bananyana as Eleven Angels is popularly known kept piling pressure on their opponent for more goals and it came three minutes later through Mompati Mbidzo’s header.

The score-line climbed to 3-0. And when the multitudes of supporters who thronged the stadium thought the goals had stopped, more goals came.

Omphile Bathoeng extended his side’s lead on the dying minutes of the first half with a fourth superb goal past Stars goalkeeper, Nsala Mosinyi.

The first half ended 4-0 in favour of Angels.

The second half kicked-off with an early goal by Angels in the early minutes through Felix Nyikabaranda to put the scores at 5-0.

Sensing trouble, Calendar Stars coach, Vincent Chikumba made changes by pulling out Ookeditse Tamahala for Tsholofelo Motlhaleng.

The subs did not stop more goals to come in against Chikumba’s side as another goal as Mbidzo scored the sixth goal on the 66th minute.

Angels also made substitutions to bolster their attacks and increase their margin by pulling out Nyikabaranda and Tshokolo Sebawe for Tlhompho Marman and Laone Kealeboga.

On the 86th minutes, Stars scored a consolation goal by Simon Motlogi and their celebrations were short lived as two minutes later, Angels put the last nail in Stars’ coffin as they hit the back of the net for the seventh time with a well-taken grass cutter by Montsi Dichaba. ENDS
